20 July 2008 - 20/07/2008 - Shoot Summary

Thanks again to you all for turning up, coming into the weekend I was dreading dragging my sorry ass up to the club to set-up in the cold and wet again..... However, as it turned out I needn`t have worried as we hit a lucky break in the weather and the conditions were good.

Today was the last day for one of our longest serving trappers, Lee (Egghead) has moved on to different things. He has been on the whole a hard working and semi-reliable trapper for us for around 4 years, I`m sure you will join us in wishing him all the best for the future. We will hopefully see him at the shoot in the future.

The nice weather allowed some members to put in personal bests.

07 July 2008 - 06/07/2008 - Perfect 50 for Andy Ripley

It had to happen eventually, for the first time in the clubs history we have seen a "perfect" round.

In challenging conditions Andy Ripley shot a perfect 50/50 100% this is a major achievement at Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club given the variation we experience clay to clay in our exposed aspect.

I`m sure all members will join me in congratulating Andy on this tremendous round.

The shoot was also for one of the prestigious Andy Moore Challenge Trophies, the results are:

1. Andy Ripley Thumbs Up 50/50 100%

27 June 2008 - Charity Presentation

Firstly, thanks to all the members who turned up to be a part of the 2008 Charity Presentation. In a change to recent years this was not just a club event, the presentation party was made up of Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club members as well as a number of Andy & Leanne`s friends and family.

Chris Crowther (President) sent his apologies as he was unable to attend due to events beyond his control.

James Crowther (vice-president) presented two awards on behalf of the Members & Friends of Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club:

1. John Edwards (Chairman) and Ceri Thomas (Team Member) of Oldham Mountain Rescue received £300 in recognition of the fine work they do within the area.

2. Marian Pass (Neonatal Nursing Sister) and DR. Srabani Samanta (Neonatal Consultant) of St Mary`s Children`s Hospital received £700. This presentation was a thank you for the care they provided to Harvey David Bradshaw and the support they provided through the Bereavement Support Team to Andy, Leanne, Emily, Danny and the extended family throughout their very difficult time.

A number of other presentations were made to St Mary`s Children`s Hospital by Andy & Leanne`s friends and family who attended in order to present their own awards.

Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club would also like to thank Julian & Chris Taylor at The Church Inn, Uppermill for their generous donation and their continued support for the club; long may it continue.

Both recipients asked me to pass on their gratitude for the awards and stated that these donations really do make a difference.

Well done everyone, some pictures of the presentation are available here.

26 June 2008 - New Safety Officers

To ensure we always have at least one safety officer on-site (a requirement for our insurance) the following people attended the CPSA Training Academy at Doveridge CPC on 25th June 2008.

Andy Bradshaw, Peter Cooper and Paul Moreland all passed the course with ease and are now fully qualified CPSA Safety Officers. They join Phil Gibbon; our existing Safety Officer to ensure we maintain our exemplary safety record.

If you do not know who your safety officers are you should ask at the counter and they will be pointed out.

The role of the club Safety Officer is to ensure the shoot operates in a safe manner and in accordance with current legislation. They are delegated their responsibilities by the Shoot Operator (in our case the committee) whom with ultimate responsibility lies.

You should feel free to approach any of the Committee or Safety Officers if you have any concerns over safety at the shoot.

You should also take notice of instructions from them at ALL times.

22 June 2008 - Shoot Summary

What can I say? Just as we announce the windiest day ever along comes another to take the title. But, such is the strength of the club we had another great turnout.

The wind made the targets "challenging" to say the least, it comes as no surprise therefore that there were no personal bests put in today.

Andy Ripley was always going to have his work cut out to beat Steve Butlers 46/50 92% in the shootout for the Saddleworth Cup 2008 Highmoor Top Gun Trophy. Andy`s 34/50 68% whilst a good score in the conditions was no match in the end. Well-done guys.

It was a busy weekend for the club with 2 large corporate events. 30 people from Dew Piling from Oldham shot in fantastic conditions on Saturday and 25 people competed in The Annual Masons Shoot in typical wet and cold conditions.

Both groups enjoyed the experience and asked me to pass on their thanks and gratitude for the club in provisioning the events and the individuals who helped run the actual shoots.

These corporate events are important for the club, they bring in much needed revenue. This weekend in particular we owe a huge thank you to a number of members who offered their help in running these two events.

Thank you to the following people:

29 April 2008 - 1st Leg - Saddleworth Cup

Thanks to all of you who turned out on a cold, wet Sunday morning to shoot the 1st Round of The Saddleworth Cup. Firstly let me say how impressed I was by the number of members who attended.

The competition is shot over 2 legs with the top 12 scores for each side making up their leg total.

The scores for the away leg are:

Highmoor CPC Running Hill CPC
Top 12 Top 12
1 T C Tod 38   A Stott 38
2 S Butler 37   J Williams 33
3 J Buckley 37   A Moore 33
4 A Pilling 35   S Lees 32
5 A Ripley 35   D Bradshaw 31
6 S Brophy 35   E Clarke 30
7 R Hughes 34   A Hobson 30
8 A Waterhouse 32   J Crowther 29
9 I Venibels 31   P Russell 29
10 Sue Butler 31   P Gibbon 29
11 S Dockray 31   C Spencer-Smith 27
12 T Loftus 30   B Francis 27
Total 406 Total 368

The deficit therefore at the end of the 1st Leg is 38 points, it should be noted is an improvement over the 51 point lead Highmoor had at the same point last year.

I feel we could have done better had our efforts not been thwarted by a group of fifth columnists, now known as the Highmoor Four lets hope they come back to the fold for the home leg.

30 March 2008 - Shoot News

Thanks to you who turned out on this bright sunny day, as is usual for the venue it still managed to blow a hoolie....

The shoot off between Alan Stott and John Buckley for 2nd and 3rd place trophies in the Andy Moore Challenge Series was won by John Buckley 7-6. Well done John. Clap

Steve Curran managed to put in a personal best with 51/100 51%, well done to Steve. Clap

Craig, sorry (they made me do it) to have to do this but your score of 9 was thrashed by a 12 year old schoolgirl M. Etchells with an a** whupping 12. Wink

OK now just to remind you all the shoot will be closed for the next 2 shoots 13th/27th April 2008 for lambing. However the away leg of the Saddleworth Cup at Highmoor is scheduled for the 27th April 2008 so as not to make too much of a break in the shooting.

The first leg of the 2008 Saddleworth Cup will be a 40 bird sporting shoot and will be held at Highmoor CPC on the 27th April 2008 at 10.30am. Refreshments and food will be available after the shoot at a location to be announced shortly.

It is possible that we may need to close on the 11th May 2008 if lambing runs over, I will confirm with Chris the farmer if this is the case nearer the time and notify people in advance on the website, by email and by telephone prior to this date.

26 March 2008 - Harvey David Bradshaw

As many of you know, Andy, our Chairman, his wife Leanne and their two children Daniel and Emily have been expecting the birth of a baby boy within the next couple of weeks.

Sadly, Leanne was taken seriously ill on Monday 17th March and was rushed to Tameside Hospital where she underwent lifesaving surgery for serious internal bleeding and an emergency Caesarean Section was carried out to deliver their baby Son, Harvey David Bradshaw.

It is thanks to the quick actions of Andy, and the skill and dedication of the Staff at Tameside Hospital that Leanne`s life has been saved and she is continuing to make good progress along the road to recovery.

However it is with great sadness that I must inform you all that little Harvey, despite a brave fight for life and the exceptional care of the staff at St Mary`s Children`s Hospital in Manchester, died in the arms of his Mum and Dad on the afternoon of Saturday 22nd March, aged six days.

I am sure you will all join me in offering our most sincere condolences to Andy, Leanne, Danny and Emily for the loss of their little Harvey and pray for Leanne`s speedy and full recovery.

We have received many messages of love and support from friends and members of the club along with many offers of assistance, and for those kind words and thoughts Andy has expressly asked that we thank you all.

In view of these tragic circumstances, it seems fitting that the charity monies pledged for donation this year be donated to St Mary`s Children`s Hospital Appeal by a way of a gesture of thanks for the fantastic way in which Harvey was cared for, and the support the Hospital has provided Andy, Leanne and the kids throughout their ordeal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy, Leanne, Danny and Emily.

Your Treasurer
Phil Gibbon

Farmers 411          Running Hill CPC 399

Well done to the farmers who took the trophy for the third time in the competitions 4 year history. As you can see the event was decided ultimately on a dozen points, which illustrates the competitiveness of the shoot. Better luck next year although we did say that last year too.

The top 3 scorers each winning a bottle of Port and a Pewter Shotgun Badge were Andy Hobson 41, Phil Gibbon 39 and Andy Moore 37. Great shooting in testing conditions.

Again special thanks to John Buckley for an awsome wheel of Stilton and to Peter Russell of Russell Kenyon decorating contractors for sponsoring the buffet.

A couple of personal bests put in yesterday were Steve Curran 69/150 46% and Stephan Lees 22/50 44% well done.

10 November 2007 - 11th November - Remembrence Sunday

As you will no doubt be aware 11th November is Remembrance Sunday:

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 the guns of Europe fell silent. After four years of the most bitter and devastating fighting, The Great War was finally over. The Armistice was signed at 5am in a railway carriage in the Forest of Compiegne, France on November 11, 1918. Six hours later, at 11am, the war ended.

At 11am we will be holding a two minute silence in memory of all the people who have given their lives in defence of our country in conflicts both past and present.

  • Andy & Cath Longton
  • Danny Bradshaw

Another special mention to the trappers who helped us in collecting the wood from Diggle, you guys do a sterling job week in/week out. I would urge the members to be generous when the Xmas tip tin appears.

29 October 2007 - The Annual Saddleworth Christmas Lights

We are pleased to inform you that this annual event will again take place at the start of the Christmas Season. It was a great success again last year, a real community event that has become a fixture in the Saddleworth calendar, and we want to make it even bigger and better this year.

Over the last three years the event really has brightened up Saddleworth for Christmas, not only on the day, but particularly, with the Uppermill lights, contributing to a real Christmas spirit during the whole of December.

The event this year will be held between 3 pm and 6pm on Saturday December 1st and will include Father Christmas on his sleigh, a procession for all the community in Uppermill High Street, Christmas stalls in the Square, carol singing lead by the children from the local schools and finishing with fireworks in Uppermill Square. As you probably know, it is very children orientated event, strictly non profit making, supported by local organisations and the local community.

We would very much like to invite your organisation to join in the event, please come along and join the procession, maybe some of you would also like to help marshal the singers and children as they accompany Father Christmas up the main street. Come dressed up in Christmas gear if you want and add to the fun! Could you put our invitation up on your website, and inform your members and their families that they are all welcome?

Contact the team below if you have any questions, and with any ideas, help and assistance. And we promise that you will enjoy yourselves!!

The Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club bonfire will be held of Sat 3rd November 2007 at the shooting ground from 6.00 pm.

Refreshments will be available in the usual form with beer and soft drinks also available.

It is important that we know approx how many will be joining us so we can make the necessary arrangements for food and drinks. You can let us know if you will be attending by telling us at the counter, by phone 07739 465030 or by email paulm@rhcpc.co.uk

We also need donations of firewood, if you have any we can use please let us know, if you need transport to move it we will do our best to arrange it but we cannot make any promises.

Anyone attending is invited to bring fireworks as without them bonfires are pretty dull, the more the merrier.

27 September 2007 - 25/09/2007 - Charity Presentation

Mr Chris Crowther and Mr Paul Wright were pleased to present Oldham Mountain Rescue & St Mary`s Church Restoration Appeal with cheques for £300 each on behalf of Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club.

The presentation was attended by both the Oldham Evening Chronicle and Stalybridge Reporter who will be running the story to raise the profile of the club and individual charities.

Some pictures are available here.

On a separate note after discussions with Mr. David Parkin from St Mary’s Church Restoration Appeal it is clear that they have a massive challenge to meet, to help them further the club has agreed to sponsor a website for them to assist their appeal.

You can help support them by visiting the appeal website.

10 September 2007 - 09/09/2007 - Annual Masons Shoot

After a break in this competition for a few years the 2007 Annual Masons Shoot ran on Sunday 9th September 2007.

5 teams competed over our 50-bird course for the Lodge/Visitors Trophy; all had a good time. The friendly competition made for an event that was closely fought.

The Presentation was held at The Church Inn, where a reception buffet was laid on, several brave people sampling the now infamous `Shaft Bender` a strong ale brewed on the premises.

The committee would like to thank the following people: Graham Baxter, Ron & Ken Henthorn, Jimmy Diggle, Danny Bradshaw and dave Beard for their assistance in running this event, without you this event would not have been possible.

The event was a great success and the competition is scheduled again for September 2008.

27 August 2007 - Forum Registration

Apologies for those who have expierienced problems with the forum registration. We have now moved to a new mail server and so the problem is fixed.

Please register, the forum is an excellent facility however it is sadly very little used.

It should be a place where members can communicate with each other as well as advertise items for sale.

Hopefully see you all on the 2nd September 2007.

Also, we are looking for a few helpers for a corporate day on the 9th September 2007, if you can help out please contact me on 07739 465030 or by email at paulm@rhcpc.co.uk.

06 August 2007 - Is this the start of summer?

Well the 5th August shoot was excellent, some challenging targets and beautiful clear skies.

Thanks to all of you who turned out and made the most of the good weather.

Long may it continue.

05 August 2007 - Foot & Mouth Outbreak (Surrey)

Following on from yesterdays bullitin I am pleased to say DEFRA have issued no further recomendations affecting access to the shooting ground.

Its a lovely sunny day, lets make the most of it, come up and see us.

04 August 2007 - Foot & Mouth Outbreak (Surrey)

Following the confirmation of the Foot & Mouth outbreak in Surrey there is a national restriction on the movement of livestock, and an exclusion zone is in place.

As we are well outside of the exclusion zone it is unlikely that it will affect us. However there is a slight chance that shooting may be affected, we are awaiting confirmation from Chris as to if shooting can go-ahead based upon the recomendations from DEFRA.

Please be aware that at this stage this is only an informational bulitin, but members are advised to check back regularly prior to tomorrows shoot (5th August 2007).

I will update the news as soon as I have more information, all being well see you all tomorrow.

01 July 2007 - 2007 Farmers Shoot - The Stanley Hague Memorial Trophy

The 2007 Farmers Shoot for The Stanley Hague Memorial Trophy suffered badly due to the bad weather conditions and timing, however despite this a few hardy members and farmers turned out in order to support this event.

On behalf of the club I would like to extend the commitees thanks to all those who came and enjoyed the shoot.

As is normal at this event the number of club shooter far outweighed the number of farmers and so it is neccessary to balance the teams, after this process was completed here are the results:

Farmers 405          Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club 380

The farmers take the competition by a narrow margin of 25, the historical result now stands at:

The Farmers 2          Running Hill Clay Pigeon Club 1

Hopefully next year we will have greater support and numbers; this is essential for the continued success of the club.

02 June 2007 - 2007 Farmers Shoot - The Stanley Hague Memorial Trophy

The 2007 Farmers Shoot will be held on Saturday 30th June at Running Hill, the prize The Stanley Hague Memorial Trophy.

So far the history of this competition has seen the Farmers win once and The Club once. A good turn out will be essential in order to win this prestigious prize again

Remember the club exists by virtue of Mr Chris Crowther`s generosity in allowing the use of his land, all profits of the club go to LOCAL good causes.

05 March 2007 - 2007 Saddleworth Cup Annual Shoot

Further to our earlier announcment regarding the inter-club shoot.

Full details are now available, check out the main news page

04 March 2007 - 2007 Saddleworth Cup Annual Shoot

Following recent discussions between Running Hill CPC and Highmoor CPC it has been decided to enter into an annual clay shooting competition. It is intended that the competition, to be called the Saddleworth Cup, will be held in the earlier part of each year and will constitute a home and away match to be shot on different days.

The aim of the competition is to give everyone of all ages and levels of experience the chance to shoot as part of a team and have the chance to represent their club in competition. At the end of each match the top 12 scores from each club will be added together, the highest scoring club being the winner of that days shoot. The totals for each club will be added together after the second shoot to give the overall winner.

The first leg of the 2007 Saddleworth Cup will be a 40 bird sporting shoot and will be held at Highmoor CPC on the 11th March 2007 at 10.30am. Refreshments and food will be available after the shoot at a location to be announced shortly.

The second leg of the 2007 Saddleworth Cup will be held at Running Hill CPC on 1st April 2007 starting at 10.30am, this will be a 50 bird sporting shoot. Booking in will start around 09.45 at the clubhouse. This event will be followed by the presentation of the Saddleworth Cup at the Church Inn, Uppermill followed by refreshments and a complimentary buffet.

If you have any questions or concerns with regard to this please do not hesitate to call either Andy Lees on 07831 518900 or Paul Wright on 01457 870671.

02 March 2007 - St Mary`s Church, Greenfield. - Spire Appeal

Well done keep up the support.

03 February 2007 - AGM Summary

Thank you to all who attended the AGM and showed their support, a summary of the meeting can be found here.

Please note membership is now due for 2007.

02 February 2007 - AGM Summary

Following the AGM on the 2nd Feb 2007 the following key points were discussed and agreed:

The appointment of Phil Gibbon to the commitee as Vice Secretary, this legitimises the position he has unofficially held for almost 12 months and is in recognition of the effort he continually puts in for the benefit of the club.

The membership fee will stay at the lower price of £20.00pa, please note this is now due for 2007.

It has been noted that the number of plastic wads being found continues to be an issue, these pose a significant risk to livestock. We have tried to enforce the felt only policy but this doesn`t seem to have worked. Out of respect for Chris (land owner) and his livestock we have been forced to take more actions to ensure that members and guests do not flout this policy.

With immediate effect the cost for a 50 birds only shoot will rise to £10 from £8.00 and the 50 birds and shells option will remain £14 this should encourage members to shoot club purchased shells rather than their own.

It was also noted that some members are shooting No.6`s, we are only cleared for upto 7`s and so members should take note of this.

The club as we all know runs for the benefit of charity, in previous years 2 charities have benefited for the money raised, there is a change this year due to the essential repair work needed to the club hut caused by the recent high winds and the level of inward investment. Only 1 charity will receive our funding this year, it was agreed that the Oldham Mountain Rescue will receive a donation of £300. This situation will be reviewed on a year by year basis.

I hope you will take this opportunity to congratulate the commitee on an excellent job and thank them for their tireless efforts.
